Style Study: Lauren

The kind of study you actually want to read about! We’re interviewing our most stylish seniors for details and advice on choosing wardrobe for your senior photo shoot.

Subject: Lauren W.
High School: East Lake High School

- LOOK ONE -

Photographer’s notes: why it works…
Layers are my favorite and a hood to frame your face is dreamy for any portrait. Blue is one of the best colors to photograph, it really pops and looks amazing in almost any surrounding, especially when it brings out your eyes like it does for Lauren. I love the urban simplicity of her grey tee, typography is so elegantly understated. And finally, the long necklace is PERFECT to give something for your hands to do and Lauren nailed it!!

- LOOK TWO -

dark blue jeans: American Eagle / red top: Marshalls / vintage brown booties: Pay less / Pearl & Heart Necklace: Icing

Photographer’s notes: why it works
I really love the subtle layers that Lauren’s top has at the bottom. I about freaked when I saw those mad men-esque brown booties! This whole look had an intellectual vibe, especially with her black frame glasses. They gave her something to do with her hands and made for a cute detail when we took them off.

- LOOK THREE -

Dark Blue Jeans: American Eagle / pink floral top: Tj Maxx / light pink knitted sweater: Tj Maxx / Pearl & Heart Necklace: Icing / Nude Pumps: Payless

Photographer’s notes: why it works…
Hello girl next door! Lauren did such a great job pairing these tones, I mean, EVEN HER NAILS MATCH! <insert heart eyes emoji here> This look is so comfortable yet classy. I LOVE the texture of her knit sweater; how we were able to give her hands something to do by pulling it closed (which again, she nailed) and how it flowed down past her blouse and hugged her body. Her pearl necklace adds interest, subtle details do so much for an image. Then her classic nude heels top everything off to really dress up the jeans.

Q+A

What made you choose these outfits for your shoot?
I wanted ensembles that displayed not only the different parts of my wardrobe but my quirky personality as well. The first outfit wasn’t actually planned! I wore it to the studio for hair and make up and TM loved it and wanted to work with it, so we did! I wanted to choose clothing that was fashionable and super cute but modest as well. I am a huge advocate for modesty and inner beauty so it was essential for me to pick outfits that not only expressed my personality and highlighted my natural features but preserved my values as well.

What did you love about these outfits? How did you feel wearing them?
To be totally honest, I adored these outfits because I felt like me and it was great! These ensembles are ones that I would wear on a daily basis so it was really awesome to embrace my style in a “trend setting” way haha. Primarily, I loved that these outfits were comfy! I tend to describe my style and Cute n’ Comfy and thats exactly what it was. I really loved that each outfit had a central color piece like the blue jacket or red top that really made the look pop!

Do you have any tips to share for shopping/prepping for a senior shoot:
Well, my first piece of advice is to not break your bank buying all new clothes. I personally didn’t spend a cent on any new clothes; but I did invest in some hair spray (I seriously have the straightest hair ever haha). You already have your best looks in your closet so design some outfits and hold a mini fashion show for your mom! (I guarantee she’ll love it) And by the way Theresa is not only a bomb photographer but an amazing stylist as well, she has a fantastic eye for fashion and can help you class up any look! My second piece of advice in prepping for a shoot would be to embrace spontaneity. Don’t panic about trying to get every location or worry about the weather. Some of my best shots were last minute/random idea shots! So relax and fun!

Lauren :: Osceola Senior Class of 2016

Meet Lauren who will be graduating from Osceola Fundamental High School in 2016…

IN HER OWN WORDS:

“All senior photos seemed the same until we found Theresa Marie’s web site. The images captured the spirit and personalities of the people and just seemed so “alive”. My overall experience with Theresa Marie was fabulous. From start to finish, the experience was first class. When we first saw the images, my mom cried and I thought they were so amazing.

I would change nothing about my experience – it was wonderful! Theresa Marie is super and parents really should consider giving their kids this kind of experience. I felt like a princess the whole time, and really enjoyed my time in front of the camera. Theresa Marie made me feel comfortable being myself, which made my photos come out looking like the true me and how I feel inside (rather than some fake smile).”

Shaina :: Wisconsin Senior Class of 2016

Meet Shaina who traveled all the way from Wisconsin just for her senior photos…

IN HER OWN WORDS:
“I’m from Wisconsin, so my family’s biggest hesitation was the distance and how Theresa and I would communicate about my senior photos. We had very minimal face to face meetings. Although we had limited time together, Theresa made it very easy for us to communicate and talk via email and the phone. The price of her photography also made my parent’s hesitant, but Theresa definitely made it worth it!

I chose Theresa Marie because I fell in love with her photos that I’ve seen on her blog! I could not stop stalking her website, it was literally perfect. Her photos looked so natural and not too edited. Theresa easily captured not only the person, but their personality. I loved working with Theresa Marie! She made me feel so comfortable when she was taking the photos. I didn’t feel self conscious or anything. What I love the most about her is that she alters the photography session and the reveal based off my interests. Theresa Marie let me make my decisions and she helped guide me too.

My favorite part was the reveal, I was literally speechless. It was fun, looking through the photos and designing my photo heirloom. I did not believe it was me at all. I felt good about myself, and that’s what I love about Theresa Marie. She made me feel beautiful, which is what made my experience with her special. I wouldn’t have change anything! The preparation, the shoot, and the reveal was perfect. She did everything she could to make my family and I happy with my senior photos. She exceeded beyond my family and I’s expectations.

I would recommend everyone to get their senior photos taken by Theresa Marie because she does everything she can to make you feel comfortable and happy with not only your photos, but the experience itself. It’s not all about the photos, it’s about the preparation. Theresa Marie was not only my photographer, but she was also a great friend. She didn’t even like my photographer, that’s how comfortable I was with her! I am so blessed to have worked with someone so talented. Theresa Marie truly captures the personality and emotion in the photos, and I could not be anymore content with how everything turned out. I had such a great experience and I wish I could relive my experience with her!”

Nicole :: Seven Rivers Christian School Senior Class of 2016

Meet Nicole Bell who will be graduating from Seven Rivers Christian School in 2016…

IN HER OWN WORDS:

“My biggest hesitation about getting senior pictures done was the fear that they would look forced, fake, or just cheesy. However, we chose Theresa Marie because each and every client in her gallery looked like they were having a genuinely good time and she brought out everyone’s natural beauty. The whole process was fun instead of overwhelming. From cracking jokes during the photoshoot to picking the perfect canvas to take home, each moment was unforgettable.

My favorite part was getting my hair and makeup done while eating snacks and just talking with Theresa. I felt so pampered! I felt confident and when I saw my images at the reveal I was amazed! I didn’t know I could look anything like those pictures portrayed! I think the hardest part was just waiting for the pictures because I was so excited! Otherwise, I wouldn’t change a thing!

Before I walked into the Theresa Marie Studio, I was a self-concious, nervous senior! I knew I wanted to have pictures done for my senior year, but I was so nervous to have to pose and have my picture taken. I chose Theresa Marie because of how natural and genuine her pictures looked and I made the right decsion!

Theresa loves what she does and she cares about her clients. Before the photoshoot she asks for you to fill out a survey so she can get to know you and bring your true self out in your photos! She pampers you when you get there and makes you laugh through the whole shoot! Nothing was awkward or forced! You need Theresa as your senior photographer!”

I got online to look around and as soon as I saw Theresa’s pictures and how amazing they were I knew she was going to be the one!

There are no words to explain how truly amazing my experience was. Theresa was so uplifting and made me feel beautiful in front of the camera! My absolute favorite part was how I didn’t even feel like I was taking pictures at times, we were having so much fun!

It was such an amazing experience; I would not have changed a single thing! She will capture every quirk possible of yours to remember your entire life. Theresa Marie does so much more than just take pictures, she captures your inner and outer beauty! She taught to be my own kind of beautiful!

“I was hesitant about the entire senior photoshoot itself. I’ve never really been good in front of a camera because I don’t know what to do with myself. My family and I also knew how pricey senior photos could be, which made us even more hesitant. We chose Theresa Marie because we fell in love with her work. Her ability to capture all kinds of personalities showed through the beautiful photos featured on her website.

My overall experience with Theresa Marie was just as amazing as her! She made me feel so comfortable and genuinely good about myself. Theresa does a great job at bringing out the best in people and it shows in the photos! My favorite part was the actual shoot because I felt like a model for the day. Alexa | Palm Harbor University Class of 2014

Please meet Alexa who is a graduating senior from Palm Harbor University High School…

IN HER OWN WORDS:
“I was a bit hesitant to get my pictures taken because I never really liked being in front of the camera. However, my mom found Theresa Marie online while searching for photographers and we both liked not only the quality of the pictures we saw on her website, but how friendly Theresa was.

My experience with Theresa Marie was great. I loved the variety of outfits and locations that I was able to do with her, it really helped me get comfortable taking pictures. I have to say my favorite part about the shoot was when we were near the pink flowers in downtown Palm Harbor. Theresa really knows the best places to get pictures taken!

I was absolutely amazed when I saw my images! I loved everything about them – the poses the locations etc. It was truly amazing to see them. Theresa Marie really puts emphasis on the senior during the experience. She got to know who I am and what I was comfortable with. That made the pictures even more personal and special.”

my DREAM job would be:
A teacher. And I don’t mean that in the typical, school education sense. I mean it in a way that I want to be able to teach anybody of any age skills and knowledge that will truly help them later in life. This is why I want to be a speech therapist.

if I inherited a million bucks today, I would:

My blanket always comforts me. I like to rub my fingers on it, especially in the morning. It’s kind of like my contact comfort.

my favorite book or magazine:
Books: The Curable Romantic, The Harry Potter Series, The Hunger Games, Kafka on the Shore, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
Magazines: Psychology Today, The Scientific American, National Geographic

my favorite high school memory is:
Going to Coastline Festival, an indie music concert series in Tampa. I was with a few good, but not necessarily really close, friends, but there I felt really free and happy experiencing music that got me through my first two years of high school. During that time I was fighting with my boyfriend, and although I love being with him, I just will always remember the immense joy I felt at being away from it all and surrounded by the exciting live music of Passion Pit and Matt and Kim. I’ve been to many concerts but that was by far my most favorite and really the only one I truly danced to.
